GEORGE NEWS - The well-known and much-loved Georgian, Trix Schlebusch (75), passed away on Sunday morning, 23 January, after a short sickbed.
Trix, who lived in George for 48 years, was born in Robertson where she also matriculated. After school she worked at Distillers in Stellenbosch and met her husband, Basil.
The couple moved to George in 1973 and Trix soon started working at the George commando offices.
A huge hockey fan, she joined the George Hockey Club and ended up managing the Southern Cape women's hockey team from 1976 to 1996. Trix was devoted to the team, accompanying them on many tours.
Her talents did not go unnoticed and she was appointed as a provincial and national team selector.
Trix also managed the George Sport Club from 1981 until 1999, seeing to the running of the tennis, squash, hockey and cricket clubs which were affiliated to the club in that time. Never a lady to sit still, she had her own catering business, catering for many weddings, functions and meetings.
In 2001 Trix started doing care work in the UK, which saw her travelling the world. She had jobs in London and Whales, and travelled to Switzerland, the USA and Seychelles.
In 2013 she returned permanently to George and worked locally caring for individual elderly residents in the Southern Cape until 2021. She again became involved with the George Sport Club Supporters as secretary in 2020 - a position she filled until her recent, untimely death.
Trix's unique laugh will be missed by everyone who crossed her path. She always had a ready smile and an open hand and heart for her loved ones.
Her family members are grateful to everyone who visited and supported her over the past two months. Trix leaves behind two older sisters and a brother; her only child, Tarita Pollicutte; her son in law, Raymond; and three granddaughters,Trisha, Judy and Leila.
Trix's memorial service takes place today, Thursday 3 February, at 11:00 at the George Presbyterian Church in Caledon Street, followed by a private send-off at Protea Hotel King George.
