GEORGE NEWS - The sixth annual Africa Day Festival hosted by the George Rastafari community was held at the weekend at the Malgas River lapa in the Witfontein Nature Reserve.
One of the organisers, Hein Scheepers, said it was a huge success.
"We were happy that almost 1 000 people attended. Visitors came from as far as Cape Town and the Northern and Eastern Cape. This is despite the fact that the festival could not be held during the past two years because of Covid-19 lockdowns."
Food and clothing stalls, children's entertainment and live music from morning till night were on the programme.

Music artists from over the Southern Cape and further afield created the mood. Vriende & Friends, Survivals, Ego Nege, Isaac Mutant, Hakkiesdraad, Die Outjie and Blak Kalamawi were among the musicians making an appearance.
Many of the festivalgoers camped for the weekend.
"We had more than 30 tents and some caravans. We are thankful for the support from George Tourism. This event is an important date on the calendar to promote tourism and cultural development. We are hoping to grow it every year," said Scheepers.
Africa Day is a public holiday in various African countries. It commemorates the founding of the African Union on 25 May 1963.
