GEORGE NEWS - George Correctional Services (DCS) now officially boasts its very own Covid-19 isolation area. The 33-bed facility was officially opened on Tuesday morning, 21 July, during a function at the premises in George.
The new facility, that was built by artisans and trainee artisans in custody at George DCS, will be used for inmates who show symptoms of the virus.
"We all have to play our role fighting the virus. We all have obligations," said Western Cape regional commissioner Delekile Klaas during the opening function. "Today we are opening an isolation area in George and for that I thank all our colleagues at this facility. We have to make sure that offenders affected by the virus get good medical care."
Speaking to the small crowd of attendees, Southern Cape area commissioner Ndileka Booi took pride in the manner in which they have been dealing with the pandemic.

"We are fully equipped. As correctional officials we commit ourselves to doing our best. The health of our offenders is a priority in our correctional services. We should at all times allow them to access the healthcare services. The building was the efforts of our own offenders, of our own artisans," she said.
