GEORGE NEWS - During a recent general meeting and imbizo hosted by the George Community Police Forum (CPF) Eden Cluster Commander, Maj-Gen Oswald Reddy, complimented and congratulated the George CPF for their efforts and the changes that are happening within the CPF.
He said that policing is about controlling human behaviour. "Voluntary compliance to the law is preferred, but the police has to step in and enforce law when people get out of line and do not comply," he said.
Referring to the book Home Invasion: Robbers disclose what you should know by Prof Rudolph Zinn, a book that gives inside information about how convicted perpetrators planned and executed house burglaries, Reddy said that criminals indicated they avoid areas where they see active involvement and vigilance by the community towards safety and security.
"Through activity we can prevent a crime without realising it and involvement of everyone is of utmost importance from all in the community," he said.
He stressed that the police is committed to bringing their side to assist and be of service and that this can only be achieved with the help and assistance of the CPF.
Justin Lottering, the deputy director for community police relations at the Department of Community Safety, stressed the importance of building partnerships between the community and the police.
