GEORGE NEWS - At the 'Run for Stroke' 5km run to be held this Friday 27 October at Outeniqua High School sports fields, families can have fun while supporting a good cause.
The purpose of this event is to raise awareness of strokes in our community and to provide an opportunity for stroke survivors to celebrate their post-stroke successes.
Michelle Jenkins, a George occupational therapist, said the event ties in with the setting up of a stroke unit at the George Mediclinic.
"As such we have their support in this venture. This will be the second year that we host this run and therefore we would appreciate all the help we can get," she said.
"Outeniqua High School has very kindly offered us the use of the school grounds for the event and the local girl guides will be helping on the day as marshals.
"Coffee and boerewors rolls will be sold. There will be category winning prizes, lucky draws and goody bags for the first 100 entries.
"Stroke survivors as well as people in the medical profession will be doing the first walk around the field at 17:30."
Entries will will be open from 16:30.
"The purpose of the fundraiser is twofold: to raise funds to host workshops for our local branch of occupational therapists; secondly, we are hosting this event with a limited budget and therefore need to cover costs," said Jenkins.
"Any organisation, company or individual who wants to offer their help or sponsorship can contact Jenkins on 044 873 0720 or one of the coordinators, Annelie Botha, at anneliebotha@mweb.co.za or 082 936 8217.
