GEORGE NEWS - The case against the two men accused of murdering controversial Cape businessman Mark Lifman was postponed to 27 March during a brief appearance in the Thembalethu Regional Court earlier today, 13 March.
The accused, Johannes ‘Jakes’ Jacobs and Gert ‘Johnny’ Bezuidenhout, are expected to appear in Mossel Bay Regional Court 5 on the 27th, when a possible trial date may be set.
It is unclear why the matter will be heard in Mossel Bay.
Bail previously refused
The latest postponement follows an earlier ruling in which Magistrate Mashau Ramalebane refused bail for the accused.
Delivering his judgment in the Thembalethu Regional Court on 12 February, Ramalebane said the defence had failed to present any genuinely new evidence to justify reconsidering bail.
According to the magistrate, the information presented by the defence was not new, but rather a rearrangement of existing facts intended to create the impression that new evidence had emerged.
