GEORGE NEWS - A planned picketing by local members of the ANC Women’s League in support of president Cyril Ramaphosa, has been postponed to next week Tuesday 13 December, when the Phala Phala report will be debated in parliament.
The picketing was planned for today, 6 December in Thembalethu, but postponed due to sudden changes in parliament’s program where the item was removed for today’s meeting, and scheduled for debate next week 13 December.
In a press statement late last night, the ANCWL in the Western Cape said they welcomes wholeheartedly the outcome of the special ANC National Executive Committee meeting: “[It] affirmed our view that the report should be rejected and the president be supported”.
The planned picket was postponed due to “apparent and unforeseen changes” in parliament’s program.
The changes is a positive development, reads the statement, “as the intended debate on the panel report on impeachment appears to be removed from parliaments program of tomorrow [6 December].”
The debate on the panel report is scheduled to take place on Tuesday 13 December.
“Therefore our picket is postponed to Tuesday, 13 December, where we will still proceed to show the president our support in numbers then,” reads the statement. “We are grateful to the large number of our members and the public who had confirmed their attendance.”
