GEORGE NEWS - A 30-year-old Thembalethu man was sentenced to 15 years imprisonment by the George Regional Court on 28 August for stabbing another man to death.
On 30 October 2016, Songezo Ntetshana overpowered Thembisile Vetezo after an argument broke out between the two and stabbed him to death.
According to Captain Dumile Gwavu, Thembalethu Police communications officer, the argument started when the accused called Vetezo, who has not been circumcised, "ikwekwe" (boy).
"The two started fighting and Songezo strangled and stabbed Vetezo on his upper body," said Gwavu. "The deceased sustained an open wound to his chest and he died on the scene."
Five years of the 15-year sentence is suspended for a five-year period on condition that the accused is not convicted of murder committed during this period.
The accused was also declared unfit to possess a firearm.
The acting Thembalethu Police station commander, Lieutenant-Colonel Eric Julies, praised the investigating officer, Warrant Officer Biga Jones, who worked tirelessly to secure this conviction.
"This success can be ascribed to the cooperation of the community, who helped with information that led to the conviction," said Julies.
