GEORGE NEWS - Ithemba Lobomi, a non-profit organisation based in Thembalethu, held a ceremony to mark the end of the 16 Days of Activism campaign on Tuesday 10 December at Mandela Village.
During the event men were encouraged not to abuse women and children but rather show them love - not only during the 16 Days of Activism, but beyond.
Employees of Ithemba Lobomi also walked the dusty streets of the informal settlement raising awareness about child and women abuse. The closing campaign was organised by the organisation's Community Family Development Support Services (CFS), which visit homes in Thembalethu helping people with their social and psychological challenges.
These include abuse, marital problems and other general matters. The CFS strives towards a Thembalethu where individuals and families proactively take greater responsibility for their lives.
16 Days of Activism for No Violence against Women and Children is a United Nations campaign which takes place annually from 25 November (International Day of No Violence against Women) to 10 December (International Human Rights Day).
Other key commemorative days during this period include World Aids Day on 1 December and International Day for Persons with Disabilities on 3 December every year.
The 16 Days campaign forms the centre point of the government's comprehensive 365 Days of Activism for No Violence Against Women and Children. At the end of the campaign, Government will officially launch the 365 Days Behavioural Change Campaign.
