GEORGE NEWS - A four-leaf clover is hard to find, as any Irishman may tell you. So when James Fraser-Lyle spotted a five-leaf clover at the George Nursery near the temporary offices of the construction company he works for, he just had to share it with George Herald and its readers.
The sprightly 81-year-old, who is officially retired but returned to work because he was bored, has fond memories of his childhood when spotting four-leaf clovers was part of the games they played. Fraser-Lyle is over the moon with his find.
"We put down a lawn in front of the offices when we came here. The clover started shooting up in between the grass and of course I am always on the scout for the four-leaf. I was extremely surprised when I spotted the five-leaf."
According to the editor of the Minitab blog website, the estimated statistical odds of finding a four-leaf clover on your first try is 10 000 to 1. The odds shoot up to 1 000 000 to 1 if your are looking to find a five-leaf clover on your first try.
The majority of clovers have three leaves.
Irish tradition has it that finding a four-leaf clover brings good luck, and five leaves will heap on even more luck, with financial success to boot.
The real McCoy.
