GEORGE NEWS - The message that "special needs children are different, not less" will be on everyone's lips as the GREEN LOLLIPOP awareness campaign started for the third consecutive year recently.
The campaign coincides with National Disability Rights Awareness Month (3 November to 3 December). 3 December is the International Day of Persons with Disabilities and is also celebrated as National Disability Rights Awareness Day.
Members of the public can show their support by purchasing GREEN lollipops at Kloppers George, Kloppers Knysna and Kloppers Port Elizabeth. It is the third year that Kloppers is supporting this initiative and this stalwart in the Garden Route Business sector is really throwing its weight behind the special needs community of George. With generous donations from Broadway Sweets and Citadel, the campaign is off to a great start. The George Herald is the main media sponsor of this awareness campaign.
Funds raised during the campaign will again be utilised to empower the special needs community of George by means of information and training.
The organisers of the campaign, of the non-profit organisation Binah and the tutoring centre for special needs children, Legacy Centre, are excited about the positive response and support they receive from the Garden Route community.
Disability is the consequence of an impairment that may be physical, cognitive, mental, sensory, emotional, developmental, or some combination of these.
The GREEN LOLLIPOP drive offers an opportunity for all of us to remove these barriers and to improve the quality of life of people with disabilities through concrete action.
