Well-trimmed hedges make a wonderful sight and provide privacy from a short-cut path used by many locals, and many varieties of both flowering and good-to-eat plants prove her green-fingers are always busy.
Another entrant, Alex Joco, had a great disappointment when the heavy January rains (over 200mm measured in a short space of time) had destroyed his beautiful big marrows. But during a visit by Kos and Fynbos representatives Chris Godfrey and Eve Stoffels, there was enough evidence to prove he is an enthusiastic gardener, and he will shortly dig the damaged crops into the ground to act as compost for his next crop.
Chris and Eve also visited Benita Olivier's garden where lots of little surprises reflect her creativity when it comes to recycling and, in addition, her garden boasts a large, productive vegetable garden.
These are only three of more than 50 people who have entered the Kos and Fynbos gardening competition for Blanco. The tension is building with only one week till judging time on 22 and 23 February.
The winners will be announced during a prize giving at the Blanco community hall on 8 March.
