GEORGE NEWS - A whopping R28 016 was raised by animal lovers in George and Wilderness during their annual street collection for the People's Dispensary for Sick Animals (PDSA) on Saturday 25 June.
This amount is 15% higher than last year.
"Thanks to the generosity of the community in George and Wilderness, and the hard work of volunteers who stood outside stores in the cold for up to two hours each," said PDSA manager Moira Gibbs.
"This is a fantastic result for us and, more importantly, for the animals. We deal mostly with sick and injured animals from the poorest parts of our community, and we rely on donations. Every rand is important, and amounts like this are crucial for work like sterilisations, which cost hundreds of rands each."
Collection organiser Deborah Patrick said volunteers make all the difference for charities like the PDSA. "I'd like to thank everyone who helped on Saturday. And thank you also to Joey Sellner and Characters for our collectors' bibs," she said.

Age is not a factor when raising funds for animals in need. Jadon Kemp (11) shows his support for the PDSA.
