GEORGE NEWS - The Electrotechnical Services department will be undertaking extensive testing on its power transformer fleet throughout George, up to and including 25 June. 

This involves isolating one of the two transformers at each substation, performing the necessary tests and then re-energising the substation.

Each substation has two transformers, and while testing is in progress on a transformer, it will mean that the substations will only be running on one transformer, and the usual "backup" or fail safe system will therefore be non-existent.

Electrotechnical Services is able to manage the loading while only running a substation on one transformer, but there is always the possibility of an unexpected failure or fault that will lead to loss of power on that substation. 

Re-energising the alternative transformer will be possible, however, this will take some time depending on the progress of the testing procedure.

This notice serves as information only, and whilst the utmost care will be taken to ensure a firm power supply remains in place, faults may occur, and this could lead to prolonged outages.
