GEORGE NEWS - The sexual offences case against a former George politician has again been postponed to allow the State further time to complete its investigation.
The accused appeared in the George Magistrate's Court on Friday 18 September, when Magistrate Wikus Bisschoff postponed the matter to 7 December.
The State indicated that further investigation was still required, including the examination of cellphone records, while the DNA analysis results are also outstanding.
Attorney Winston Jansen represented the accused. The mother of the child involved in the case also appeared in court and was represented by Legal Aid.
The accused faces charges under the Sexual Offences Act, including the alleged sexual grooming of a minor, as well as a charge relating to the alleged possession of child sexual abuse material. He has not yet pleaded.
During his previous appearance on 4 August, the case was postponed specifically for further investigation and the outstanding DNA results. At the time, Jansen raised his concern about the delays in the investigation, including with the forensic examination of his client's cellphone.
The accused remains out on bail. His bail conditions state that he may reside only in Cape Town and may travel only with the investigating officer's permission.
