GEORGE NEWS - Police members from across the Garden Route District gathered at The Potter’s House Christian Fellowship Church in George on Wednesday 30 September for the district’s National Police Prayer Day.
The service, hosted under the theme “What Can the Righteous Do? Rise, Pray and Act with Integrity”, was led by the police’s Chaplaincy and attended by Garden Route police management, community leaders and police officials from 21 police stations across the district.
Prayers were offered for police members and their families, as well as survivors and families affected by gender-based violence and femicide (GBVF).
The service also provided an opportunity for spiritual reflection and included a candle-lighting ceremony in honour of police members who died in the line of duty and victims of GBVF.
Delivering the keynote address, Garden Route District Commissioner Major General Phumzile Cetyana called on religious leaders to continue praying for police officials.
“Families are normally left behind when the members are deployed to serve and protect the country. I want to thank families for sharing their loved ones with the people of South Africa,” Cetyana said.
He also reminded police members of the importance of accessing services through the SAPS Employee Health and Wellness (EHW) programme, where trained professionals are available to provide support and care.
