GARDEN ROUTE | KAROO NEWS - The South Cape Association for Visual Artists (Scava) is hosting its Coast and Country Art Exhibition at the George Museum until 26 April.
The best art from Scava members selected from each region in the Southern Cape can be viewed. The museum is open weekdays from 08:00 to 16:00 and on Saturdays from 09:00 to 12:00.
It is closed on Sundays and public holidays. Entry is free.
This regional exhibition was envisioned by recently resigned chairperson Maura StJohn as part of the opening of the newly renovated George Museum and Scava invited artists from over the region to join hands.
Artists from Calitzdorp, De Rust, Great Brak River, Knysna, Ladismith, Mossel Bay, Oudtshoorn, Prins Albert, Sedgefield, Wilderness and nine towns in the Hessequa district are represented at the exhibit.
More than 200 artworks are on show and all are for sale, courtesy of the Friends of the George Museum.
Scava was founded by Ken Smith as George Artist Club on 1 March 2010. In 2015 the society changed its name to Scava and became a branch of Sanava, the South African National Association for the Visual Arts.
Scava has 74 active members from Gouritsmond to Plettenberg Bay and inland from Ladismith to Prince Albert, ranging from professional artists to novice painters. The George Museum has been a faithful ally in regular quarterly exhibitions since 2014.
