Dastile's essay was on 'The current South African situation regarding the creative utilisation and/or extraction and processing of natural resources in South Africa by the government and private sector and the protection of the environment'.
According to Dastile, who wants to be a charted accounted, the bursary has opened many doors as the stress of searching for money to fund his tertiary education has now been lifted.
"I am very happy as I can rest assured that I am going to university next year and funding won't be an obstacle. This now means I have to work hard to get university entrance. I am really grateful to my school, Nedbank and the Western Cape Government for presenting me with this opportunity," said Dastile.
Thembalethu High School Headmaster Norman Cona is also very happy about Dastile's achievement. "He has not only won for himself but also for our school. He has put us on the map as a school that is also capable of producing great scholars," said Cona.
