GEORGE NEWS FLASH AND VIDEO - About 60 employees of MTO Forestry, known as Cape Pine, gathered outside the company’s premises in the George industrial area this morning to demand a 10% increase in wages.
Among their demands is an increased night shift allowance.
In a press statement, the National Certificated Fishing & Allied Workers Union (NCFAWU) said negotiations have reached deadlock and referred the matter to the CCMA.
Conciliation failed and a certificate of strike was issued by the CCMA on Friday for the strike to commence today. In response, MTO issued a notice of lockout.
The strike stems from the following demands:
• 10% across the board increase;
• Minimum wage of R4 200;
• 17% Night shift allowance;
• Implementation of Agency Fee agreement.
The George Herald approached MTO Forestry for comment this morning and were told that a press release would be issued later today.
