GEORGE NEWS - Recently the Early Act Club of Outeniqua Primary School completed another community outreach project.
Early Act is sponsored by the international Rotary organisation, and promotes public service and active citizenship.
Danielle Barnard, Early Act coordinator and teacher at Outeniqua Primary, said the splendid work that the Watson Retirement Home does in George made a big impression on them and they wanted to do something special for the residents.
The learners of Early Act, assisted by their parents, made cards and cookies for the residents which they handed out, with flowers, on 1 September. They also spent time chatting to the residents.

Dr Nico Venter, headmaster of Outeniqua Primary, said it is part of their mission to include a holistic aspiration towards excellence.
"We want our learners to be the difference. Early Act, in its encouragement of taking the lead in our community, provides an excellent forum for us to work towards our goal."

The JJ Watson Retirement Home was inaugurated in 1967.
Named after JJ Watson, who supplied the property at a reduced price, the retirement home is managed by Badisa, but the home is responsible for all its own income and expenses.
It houses 79 residents and has a substantial waiting list. The residents are cared for comprehensively, from balanced meals to a multitude of activities.
