This competition forms part of an initiative by Southern Cape and Karoo museums to celebrate International Museum Day.
Participants were all given topics such as "Discuss practical and creative ways how museums can go about ma-king themselves more dynamic and community-focused institutions" and "You know that school learners forget the importance of museums and heritage. How would you, as a high school learner, go about to make your fellow learners appreciate it even more?"
The winners of this evening will progress to a final competition held on 28 September, in celebration of Heritage Day on 24 September.
Judges Jaco Boshoff from NMMU, Mzimasi Mboyana from IEC and Monica Mahlangu Tshan gana from South Cape College had a tough decision to make.
Finally they decided that Nkosinathi Nongogo from Thembalethu High school should win first place, Lebohang Posholi of PW Botha High School second, and Deou-dette Heyns of Parkdene High got third place.
The winners were rewarded with trophies sponsored by Tokkie Nel Jewelers and Floyd Murray.
Next round
Nongogo, Posholi and Heyns will compete against the winners from the other regional museums’ winners, i.e. CP Nel Museum in Oudtshoorn, and Bartolomeu Dias Museum in Mossel Bay.
