GEORGE NEWS - The National Education, Health and Allied Workers' Union (Nehawu) drove in a motorcade through George yesterday morning to celebrate health workers. They visited Thembalethu Clinic and Harry Comay Hospital and ended at George Hospital.
Nkonzo Mfedu, the union regional secretary, says they have since the beginning of lockdown appreciated the hard work, dedication and sacrifice of front-line workers.
"At a special meeting on 25 July, the national leadership took a decision to show appreciation of front-line workers by providing them with PPE. We did that today. We handed over masks and hand sanitisers at all three insitutions," he said.
According to Mfedu, the motorcade emphasised that they were showing appreciation and making the donations. Nehawu is fully behind the workers who survived and are still fighting the epidemic, and will work hard in ensuring that government does implement resolution 1 of 2018 regarding wage increment.
"For our fallen heroes, we say we appreciate their sacrifice and we will continue fighting for the gains of workers!"
