GEORGE NEWS - A youth ambassador from the George Municipality Youth Office, Melonique Morris, assisted by the Pacaltsdorp Community Business Association (PCBA), is leading a group of young women from Pacaltsdorp in implementing an upcycling programme with the aim of building skills and generating income.
The group of twelve committed members have started making goods from recycled material (cans, plastic bags and other materials).
The PCBA provides assistance with skills transfer and business mentoring. Morris is the direct link between the group and the George Municipality Youth Office.
According to Jonel Kerspuy, coordinator of the Youth Office, they have spread awareness about the importance of recycling at the crèches and schools in their community.
This resulted in a showcase of materials at a modelling show recently held in New Dawn Park.
The PCBA assisted them to set up a stall at their community market days where they will sell their upcycled goods. The group intends to work hard and connect with like-minded organisations, to make and be the change in their community.
Melonique Morris from George Municipality Youth Office was part of the recycling modelling show.
