GEORGE NEWS - Staff from the Human Settlements and Planning and Development directorates together with Human Settlements Portfolio Councillor David Willemse raised funds to cook more than 230 litres of soup to deliver with buttered bread to children and families in Parkdene informal settlement.

Socks, sweets and educational toys were on the giveaway-list of two schools visited by the Finance Department. Diepkloof Primêre Skool’s greatest need were for winter socks, which staff delivered together with some sweets. Educational toys and sweets brought hope and glee to Optima Day Care Centre in Pacaltsdorp.

The Anti-Land Invasion Unit, lead by unit head Adam Apples, paid a surprise visit to Speel 'n Leer (Parkdene) and Wielie Walie (Rosemoor) creches, which were identified to be among the most vulnerable in the community.

Children were treated with sweets, cupcakes, lucky packets and toys. The unit also distributed sweets to children in the communities while doing their rounds in Parkdene, Rosemoore and Thembalethu we distributed sweet packs to needy children in the community.
"The gifts were received with such joy and enthusiasm and inspired our staff to continue to try and uplift the circumstances of the vulnerable in our communities," said Mr Appels.
