GEORGE NEWS - Judgement on the bail application of 44-year-old murder accused, Jonathan Brits, is scheduled to be heard in the George Magistrate's Court today, Thursday 27 October.
This follows his arrest on Tuesday 4 October in connection with the death of a woman who disappeared in 2016. Brits first appeared for his bail application on Thursday 20 October where the case was postponed for judgement today.
According to Southern Cape police spokesperson Capt Malcolm Pojie, an intricate investigation into the discovery of human remains in an overgrown area in Zone 9, Thembalethu on 26 December 2016 led to the arrest of the accused.
"Investigation into the matter indicates that the deceased, later identified as Evelyn Bevee (41), was reported as missing by her sister in 2018 after she was last seen in December 2016," said Pojie.
DNA analysis later confirmed that the human remains were those of the missing person and a murder docket was opened.
"Further investigation later linked the man to the victim's death and a warrant for his arrest was issued which culminated in the arrest last week.
"It is also believed that they were involved in a romantic relationship at the time of her disappearance," said Pojie.
Brits remains in custody pending the outcome of his bail application.
