GEORGE NEWS - A 44-year-old accused, Jonathan Brits, was expected to make his second court appearance on Thursday 13 October, following his arrest on a murder charge on Tuesday 4 October.
According to Southern Cape police spokesperson Capt Malcolm Pojie, an intricate investigation into the discovery of human remains in an overgrown area in Zone 9, Thembalethu on 26 December 2016, led to the arrest of the accused.
"Investigation into the matter indicates that the deceased, later identified as Evelyn Bevee (41), was reported as missing by her sister in 2018 after she was last seen in December 2016," Pojie said.
DNA analysis later confirmed that the human remains were those of the missing person and a murder docket was opened.
"Further investigation later linked the man to the victim's death and a warrant for his arrest was issued which culminated in the arrest last week. It is also believed that they were involved in a romantic relationship at the time of her disappearance," said Pojie.
