GEORGE NEWS - During a break-in at the Life Community Learning Centre in Thembalethu, a number of balls, dolls and soft toys - all dear to the little ones attending the centre - were stolen.
According to Anathi John, the overseer at the learning centre which is situated behind MM Mateza Primary School, she found the place in chaos when she arrived at work on Monday 22 April.
Some items were lying outside the building, and inside everything was in disorder. "The front window was broken. They are so brilliant. We have burglar bars, but we suspect that a child must have climbed through."
The value of their loss is estimated to be about R700. They opened a case with the police, but there are so far no clues as to who the perpetrators are. "It breaks my heart. We want to educate our children, but these people want to destroy what little we have."
John said this has happened numerous times before. "They let about a month or so go by after a break-in and then they come again."
In the mornings, the centre accommodates children up to five years and in the afternoons it offers aftercare to children aged 6 to 18 years.
Persons who would like to help the learning centre by replacing the toys they lost, may contact John on 078 968 7273.
The cupboard was opened and its contents left in disarray.
