GEORGE NEWSFLASH - GO GEORGE is challenging the residents of George to leave their cars at home on Friday 22 September, and take a bus to work.
This day has been set aside worldwide as this year's Car-free Day to remind the world population that there are alternative ways to get from point A to point B – be that by foot, by cycling or, here in George, by using the convenient GO GEORGE bus service.
There are currently more than one billion motor vehicles on the roads world wide, with the inescapable impact that has on pollution when each individual uses his/her car to get to work.
A few prominent residents of George challenge the rest of the town to give their motor cars a break on Friday and to get to work in a more environment-friendly manner.
Behind the wheel is Executive Mayor, Alderman Malvin Naik, who encourages residents to hop on a GO GEORGE bus.
George Herald editor Lizette da Silva says she and her two daughters are definitely getting onto a bus near their home early morning, while George Junior Mayor Melissa Vorster (left) and Enrico Apollis from Pacaltsdorp both also plan to do "the right thing" on Friday.
