GEORGE NEWS - Ithemba Lobomi will commemorate World Aids Day at their premises in Thembaleth on Monday 2 December.
The event aims to help fight prejudice, stigma and discrimination about this pandemic and to remember those who lost the battle against Aids. HIV is still a reality and it is incumbent on all of us to continue fighting the disease and all that accompanies it.
The programme will feature a number of guest and motivational speakers. A candle-lighting and prayer service will also be held.
World Aids Day is observed annually on 1 December for people and communities to unite in the fight against HIV and to show support for people living with HIV and remember those who have died.
The national government theme this year is "It is my right to know my status; Prevention is my responsibility".
This will be supported by the slogan, "Let Our Actions Count!". Although South Africa has been relentless in its mission to turn around the HIV, Aids, and TB epidemics, stigma and discrimination still persist for many people living with, or affected by HIV.
Ithemba Lobomi is a non-profit organisation based in Thembalethu. The organisation was founded in 2007 to tackle the high rate of HIV, Aids and TB within the community and to alleviate the impact of the burden of disease faced by the families and by the health and social services.
