GEORGE NEWS - George Family and Child Welfare and Fancourt have combined forces to distribute school stationery to underprivileged children across the communities of George. These donations included backpacks and scientific calculators.
The stationery was donated by Fancourt as part of their Cooperate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme, the main aim of which is to give back to the community and assist those in need. Jenny Streicher, Fancourt CSR committee chairperson, said every year they support the Child Welfare gifting drive.
"This time we have approached it differently; we have asked Child Welfare what the children of the community need, and we have identified that stationery is in demand," she said.
Stationery was delivered to five different communities in George.
George Family and Child Welfare chairman Myron Rabinowitz thanked Fancourt for the donation. "Although we saw an 80% pass rate as a country, the standard of education in South Africa is very worrying and that is the main reason why we want to make sure that children have proper learning materials from day one," said Rabinowitz.
The stationery was delivered to five different communities in George on Friday 10 January. Both primary and high school children benefited from the project.
