Update
GEORGE NEWS - The much disputed George Integrated Transport Network matter seems to be far from resolved, with national and provisional transport authorities yet to find a solution.
The ministry of Transport released a media statement last week saying the discussions between the Western Cape Department of Transport, Uncedo and the George Community Forum are at a sensitive stage.
This follows a meeting last week between all the parties concerned. The ministry said the meeting was part of the ongoing efforts to find solutions to the issues that impede the full-scale implementation of Go George Phase 4.
"The deliberations explored grievances raised by Uncedo Taxi Association and the George Community Forum in previous engagements. Complaints relate to procurement processes, competition, compensation, infrastructure development and economic opportunities. Broader discussions between the three spheres of government and key stakeholders are at a sensitive stage but are progressing steadily," the statement reads.
It further states that "officials from national, provincial and local government are united in their optimism that an amicable solution will be found."
In August the Minister of Transport, Fikile Mbalula, Western Cape MEC for Transport, Bonginkosi Madikizela and George Mayor Melvin Naik held a series of engagements with key stakeholders of the George Integrated Public Transport Network.
The engagements were part of the ongoing efforts to find solutions to the implementation of Go George Phase 4A and B.
The ministers promised to continue discussions and present a possible way forward within 45 days.
