GEORGE NEWS - Slooow. Quick quick. Slooow. Those were just some of the timings that 40 dancers repeated to themselves as they took the George Civic Centre's floor to demonstrate various ballroom and Latin American dance steps at Absolute Dance Studio's annual formal dinner and show event on Saturday 7 October.

"Showcase is not a competition, rather, it is an opportunity for all students who want to show their friends and family how they dance," says the studio's co-owner, Lizette van Wyk.
Students who went through their paces in Showcase 2017 ranged in age from 6 to over 60, and each received a medal and diploma upon the completion of their dance(s).
The youngest participant, Ethan van Wyk (6), took part alongside his brother Jadon (10), showing that they definitely don't have any two left feet between them.
Dance student Delville Engelbrecht did the Cha-Cha with his instructor, Lizette van Wyk.
The dancers' three months of preparation was not lost on their appreciative audience of more than 230 guests, who also enjoyed a three course dinner provided by Beulah's Catering.
Numerous lucky draw prizes were up for grabs, with the evening's big prize, a striking dance-themed painting by Annette Jacobs Prinsloo, eventually won by an elated Maureen Terblanche.
Co-owners of Absolute Dance studio Dawid and Lizette van Wyk, and Sonia Mondon, who serve as instructors along with Samantha Soekens and Eduan Naude, are passionate about building confidence in their dancers and being family and community orientated.
For this team, success is measured in seeing students grow in confidence, facing their fears, and enhancing their social lives.
