GEORGE NEWS - Four new firefighting vehicles, custom-made for George Municipality by a local company, were handed over at the George Fire Station on Tuesday 16 May.
Present at the handover were municipal management personnel concerned with fire and rescue services: Sivuyile Mtila, Cornelius Barnard, Santa Sternsdorf and Johan Brand, as well as the mayor, Leon van Wyk, and Portfolio Councillor Charlotte Clarke.
Brandon Woolley, the owner of Ramcom Trucks which manufactured the vehicles, said they were privileged and proud to be able to build these vehicles for the George Fire Services and were glad that they could serve and make a difference in the community with their products.
The vehicles are made out of polypropylene, a very durable and lightweight material.
Brand, the divisional commander for George Fire and Rescue Services, said the team is very proud to take ownership and start using the vehicles.
Sternsdorf, the station commander for training, described each of the vehicles: a major pumper that had been completely rebuilt after an accident, a Toyota Land Cruiser fitted with a state-of-the-art polypropylene unit that allows for increasing the water tank capacity to 600 litres, a rescue vehicle and a Polaris 4x4 that allows them to diversify rescue and firefighting.
Van Wyk was delighted to receive the vehicles on behalf of the municipality.
