GEORGE NEWS - The community of Thembalethu and more specifically the football fraternity, mourn the death of Bayanda Fose (popularly known as Gondwe), who was murdered on Sunday afternoon 3 December at Jam Alley Tavern.
According to eyewitnesses Fose, who was a security guard at the tavern, got into an argument with his assailant about a glass of beer, which resulted in Fose being stabbed in the chest.
He died on the scene.
The suspect tried to flee the scene, but taverngoers and community members apprehended him and pelted him with stones and bottles and set him on fire.
He later died in hospital.
According to Eden Cluster Commander Maj-Gen Oswald Reddy, the mob justice victim was convicted of murder in 2010 and was out on parole at time of the incident.
Idinga sports journalist freelancer, Zama Gagu, described Fose as a humble man who dedicated his life to the development of football in Thembalethu and Lawaaikamp.
"The football fraternity has lost an icon, an instructor and a future leader. We will remember his jokes and his constructive talks.
"Apart from playing a major role in football development in Thembalethu, more especially at grassroot level, he also played a critical role in music development in our communities," said Gagu.
Fose will be buried in Cradock on Saturday 16 December.
