At the beginning of the school holidays the Eden Lions teamed up with the other service clubs of George, as well as the George Flight Training College and a number of private pilots, to co-host the third annual Santa Flight. This project treats over 100 underprivileged children to a fantastic Christmas party, the highlight of which is a flight above the skies of George.
Shortly thereafter, the Eden Lions shook their tins for donations from the public at the Pick n Pay Precap Centre, as well as at the Bush Lapa music festival. Money collected at these venues is used for feeding projects throughout the year.
The biggest project by far was a joint project with the George Municipality. The Eden Lions were asked to cater for and serve a three-course Christmas dinner for 400 underprivileged people at the civic centre. Not only was the preparation and cooking a huge task, which began a few days before Christmas, but those members and a few other volunteers who committed themselves had to be at the civic centre from 03:00 on Christmas Day in order to prepare, plate and serve the three-course meal to the 400 guests. Although this was a huge request to make, the Lions and volunteers who were up for the challenge were rewarded by looks of absolute delight from the guests, many of whom had probably never before eaten such a sumptuous meal.
The Eden Lions Club is a non-profit service club consisting entirely of volunteers. If you would like to know more about the Eden Lions and their various projects, please visit the Eden Lions Club Facebook page.
