GEORGE NEWS - Former Georgians Rudolf du Toit and his twin brother, De Wet (better known as Tarzan) have ambitious plans for this year and even bigger plans for 2020.
They already have over 10 million views on YouTube for the Tarzan films they have produced over the past few years.
"The international film industry in South Africa is booming, especially in Cape Town, but lately also in our hometown, George. I think the whole idea of Sallywood is an amazing opportunity for anybody who is passionate about film. It's going to be a huge financial boost to the country," says Rudolf.
He and De Wet want to establish a production company in George and are planning to engage with the Sallywood developers.
"We want to support the film industry in the Garden Route by giving opportunities to aspiring film-makers and to make movies the way it should be done. Our goal is telling local stories that are mainly fictional. We as South Africans tend to lean more towards political, historical or real-life stories. Why? You create your audience with what you show them.
"Our new film company will challenge us and others to turn the lens in a different direction and create content which we believe South Africans have always longed and waited for - fantastic edge-of-your-seat entertainment for the whole family."
Rudolf's latest experience is as a stand-in* and the set PA for the shooting of Warrior: Season 2 at Cape Town Film Studios in Cape Town, which started in February this year.
"It is an amazing journey and an in-depth learning curve," says Rudolf.
On the set of Warrior: Season 2 in Cape Town where Rudolf is the set PA. Warrior is produced by Shannon Lee (daughter of Bruce Lee) and Fast and Furious producer Justin Lin. It is based on the writings of the legendary Bruce Lee. "The detail on set, the acting performances, storytelling and fight sequences are spectacular. They've built a complete San Francisco town, as most of the story is about the Chinese moving to San Francisco in the 1960s."
Famous directors such as Banshee creator Jonathan Tropper, Hell on wheels director Dennie Gordon and Game of Thrones director David Petrarca each directed a few episodes of Warrior: Season 2.
"Meeting Shannon Lee was one of the highlights for me. She is humble and passionate about the series. A Season 3 is already in the works," says Du Toit.
