GEORGE NEWS - Willize Venter, whose house is next to the railway line in Bergsig, is sitting on tenterhooks again, praying that history will not repeat itself.
The Transnet railway line reserve is once again overgrown and vagrants have started sleeping under the Meyer Street railway bridge near her home.
In April 2014, when she had the same problem, Transnet appointed a contractor, Magic Moppers, who kept the railway lines clean up to now.
"It would appear as if something has gone awry and the problems have surfaced again, as we do not see the contractor cleaning the railway reserve."
She says that the height of the undergrowth and lack of maintenance is providing criminals and vagrants with the perfect cover to move from one section of town to the other without being harried by the authorities.
She hopes that Transnet will act quickly to appoint a new contractor.
Mike Asefovitz, senior manager of corporate affairs at Transnet Freight Rail, has confirmed that the vegetation maintenance contract was recently renewed and maintenance will commence shortly.
