GEORGE NEWS - Glenwood House School learner Cyan Scholtz (16), crowned as Miss Face of Talent Africa 2019 in April, participated in the Talent America 2019 competition held in New York City, USA, from 27 to 30 June.
Cyan is currently in Grade 10 and beside her passion for the arts, her dream is to complete a degree in medicine.
She loves to do charity drives and to be involved in social community work, and enjoys encouraging and mentoring the youth and underprivileged to pursue their dreams.
As one of 53 South African contestants, Cyan faced contestants from all over the world. The categories included acting, vocal, modelling, commercial print, dance and instrumental. "I was so surprised and honoured to have placed in the top three in nine of my 10 items. My age group had a lot of competitors with incredible talent from around the world and I was the youngest," she says.
She claimed an overall first place for acting in the Legit/Theatre Category, second for commercial, cold read script, dramatic acting and comedy in her age category. She also received second place overall in the jazz vocal solo category. For modelling she received overall first places for high fashion ramp and commercial print, a second place for fitness and third place for formal and casual.
Another highlight was receiving three call-backs and interviews from esteemed international casting directors and talent scouts.
At the prize-giving show she performed in the modelling, acting and singing categories and loved every minute. "I also attended seven workshops, such as acting at the New York film academy. I also took part in the acting, singing and dancing rehearsals with some of the cast of the Aladdin Broadway show."
Cyan says it was an incredible experience and she can't believe she brought back so many trophies, as the competition was of a high standard.
