GEORGE NEWS - In November, when the Covid-19 second wave was becoming evident, the nursing management department of Mediclinic George requested the assistance of volunteer nurses from around the country to manage the increase in admissions to the hospitals.
Altogether 41 nurses from KZN, Gauteng and Cape Town volunteered their services and gave of their personal time away from their families to provide support.
Ingrid Cronjé of the George Business Chamber said the chamber wished to acknowledge the dedication and commitment of these nurses and appealed to the business community to show appreciation in any way that they deemed appropriate.
Some businesses provided useful items for goody bags that were packed and delivered by the chamber to the nurses' place of residence to be handed to each nurse when they came off shift.

Some companies wrote notes of appreciation and some caring individuals dropped off cookies and eats for the nurses. The local radio stations went on air expressing gratitude for their devotion to the cause.
"In these anxious times, it is heartening to see how supportive people are. Thank you to those companies who supplied the contents for the goody bags and to all of those 'Health Care Heroes' who strive to keep our citizens safe," said Cronjé.
