GEORGE NEWS - The Baha'is of George will host a celebration of World Religion Day on Sunday 20 February at 15:30 at the George municipal hall.
"This year the focus will be on love and unity to bring about a better world and how to draw from the spiritual principles of religion in dealing with the moral, economical and social challenges facing humanity today," says Baha'is spokesperson Roz Schubert.
"Religion has been a part of human history from the very beginning of the inception of society. It has a rough history and at times it has been used as a vehicle of war and hatred. But the purest forms of religion promote human dignity and justice for all, as all religions emanate from a single divine source."
The National Spiritual Assembly of the Baha'is of the United States instituted World Religion Day in 1949, but the day has since taken on a life of its own.
The purpose of World Religion Day is to highlight the idea that the spiritual principles underlying the world's religions are harmonious, and that religions play a significant role in unifying humanity.
World Religion Day is a special day recognised by the United Nations and celebrated in many parts of the world. It is about learning that by promoting a spirit of sharing, tolerance, respect and understanding, religion has the potential to nurture and shape a prosperous world for all.
There will be speakers from different faiths in the area. All are welcome.
