GARDEN ROUTE NEWS - Yearling Cape Fur Seals are currently resting on the shores of our beaches, according to the Stranded Marine Animal Rescue Team (Smart).
In the interest of the safety and conservation of these animals, Smart has kindly requested the public to adhere to the following guidelines
* Maintain Distance: Please stay well clear of the seals to minimize disturbance.
* Keep Dogs Away: Ensure that dogs are kept away from the resting seals.
* No Chasing: Refrain from chasing the seals into the water, as this can cause stress to the animals. They come to the land to rest, and disturbance may disrupt their natural behavior.
* No Feeding: Avoid feeding the seals, as it is not good for them to become habituated to humans feeding them. Their natural diet is crucial for their health and well-being.
Be aware that Cape Fur Seals are protected by law, and any interference with them may have legal consequences.
While these seals may appear docile, they are wild animals, and approaching them can be dangerous. Your cooperation is crucial in safeguarding the welfare of these Cape Fur Seals.
Smart appealed to the public and thanked them for their understanding and assistance in protecting our marine wildlife.
