The 'drive' educated 15 000 people face to face about the early signs of breast, cervical, ovarian, colorectal, prostate and testicular cancer. Each person received a brochure in their own language.
Four of the Garden Route's cancer survivors participated in the 2013 Awareness Ride: Frieda Henning, Amy Jansen, Magda Geldenhuys and Elsje de Swardt.
The faces of the people awaiting their arrival at each stop with so much anticipation were priceless, says Frieda Henning, the project manager. "The hungry-for-more communities joined in the celebrations and words of confirmation like 'dis waar' were often heard throughout the performance and the education sessions."
The group's selfless help to communities is done with the tender care and love of mothers and it is clear that they don't only carry these people, but each other, emphasising the fact that the strong bond of togetherness and support is a crucial part of survival.
The group ended in Somerset West feeling rejuvenated, blessed and once again thankful for being part of such an amazing once-in-a-lifetime experience.
In the words of one of the supporters who joined the ride, "What a blessing it's been to be part of this mind-blowing experience with people who don't even know what it is to wait for the storm to pass, they simply dance in the rain! The ride was a sheer demonstration of triumph over cancer."
Any businesses interested in inviting Cancer.vive to do a Wellness Day at their premises should contact Frieda Henning on frieda@cancervive.co.za.
