GEORGE NEWS - The message "Special needs children are different, not less" will literally be on everyone's lips with the Green Lollipop awareness campaign that is currently underway.
The campaign coincides with National Disability Rights Awareness Month from 3 November to 3 December.
The third of December is also the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, and is celebrated in South Africa as National Disability Rights Awareness Day.
Members of the public can show their support by buying green lollipops at Kloppers George and Legacy Centre (in 11th Avenue, Denneoord).
Kloppers George, a stalwart in local business, is really throwing its weight behind the special needs community of George by supporting this initiative for the second time.
Funds raised during the campaign will again be used to empower the special needs community of George by means of information and training.
The organisers of the campaign - the non-profit organisation Binah and the tutoring centre for special needs children, Legacy Centre - are extremely excited about the positive response and support they receive from the Garden Route community.

Disability is the consequence of an impairment that may be physical, cognitive, mental, sensory, emotional, developmental, or some combination of these.
The Green Lollipop drive offers an opportunity for all of us to remove these barriers and to improve the quality of life of people with disabilities.
