This represents a 24% increase, compared to last year, in the number of George Campus graduates.
Diplomas were awarded and degrees conferred in four faculties, with the biggest concentration of recipients - 186 - in the School of Natural Resource Management which resorts under the Faculty of Science. No less than 99 National Diplomas, 86 BTech degrees and one MTech degree in Nature Conservation were awarded within this particular faculty.
As in the past, the Forestry programme accounted for the largest number of diplomandi (46 National Diplomas: Forestry) and graduandi (39 BTech: Forestry degrees). The Nature Conservation BTech class of 2011 with 24 graduandi excelled with no less than four degrees being awarded with distinction.
Business and Economic Sciences followed with 43 National Diplomas, 23 BCom degrees and four BTech degrees; ten George Campus students were awarded the National Diploma: Information Technology (Faculty of Engineering, the Built Environment and Information Technology), and two qualified with the National Diploma in Sport Management from the Faculty of Health Sciences.
An exceptional milestone was achieved by the fast-growing BCom programme which, for the first time since its introduction at George Campus in 2006, rendered more graduates than the number of students with which this flagship programme commenced with five years ago.

Reratiloe Makoe, member of the NMMU George Student Council and chairperson of the Outeniqua ladies’ Residence House Committee, is congratulated by Ms Vuyiswa Mentile-Gonzongo, the George Campus Residence Manager. Reratiloe graduated within the Faculty of Science and received a National Diploma in Forestry.
