GEORGE NEWS - Buco George recently sponsored bibs for Pasa (People Against Substance Abuse) which will be worn by volunteers who assist in their next street collection on Saturday 28 September.
Pasa received permission to hold street collections in George to raise funds for the work they do in local schools, as the schools are not able to pay for the organisation's services.
"We are calling on the public of George to please support our collection. Be on the lookout for volunteers that will be standing at various intersections throughout the city. We are also looking for volunteers. We need 34 people to make the street collection a success and so far we have only eight who have committed to help. We also kindly ask businesses to sponsor a meal for the volunteers as refreshments will be provided for them," says Freddy Trout, founder and CEO.
The collection will take place from 08:30 till 14:00.
Anyone who wants to volunteer their time for the street collection can contact Freddy Trout on 071 090 4450. Businesses that want to sponsor meals, are also asked to contact Freddy.
Pasa is an approved public benefit organisation with Sars. Donations are tax deductible and businesses can score BBBEE points as Pasa is a level one entity.
Pasa has been working in schools in and around the Garden Route since 2006. The organisation was registered by the Department of Social Development as a non-profit organisation in 2009. Their mission is to empower youth through life skills programmes focused on the prevention of habit and/or addiction-forming substances.
They provide early intervention as well as support and aftercare services, primarily to at-risk youth in schools in the Western Cape.
The organisation also empowers parents through workshops to be able to identify possible substance abuse or experimentation very early on so that they can get the relevant help before addiction sets in.
Pasa provides a consultation based service for parents or family of substance abusers or people addicted to drugs, and does referrals and even transportation to rehabilitation centres.
This is a service that has been provided to hundreds of families in George for the last seven years with over 200 people and families in George already helped through this service. Pasa also provides aftercare and counselling services with a very high success rate.
