GEORGE NEWS - After an hour lunch break, DA Councillor Vincentius Muller was announced as the acting speaker until a new speaker of council has been elected.
On a request from Mayor Melvin Naik to fast-track the meeting, only some of the items will be dealt with at today's council meeting.
The election of the speaker, chief whip of council and four new mayco members are not among these.
Naik requested a Special Council Meeting for 12 February where these are likely to serve.
The request was made before the election of the acting speaker and no clear answer was given at the time.
