ENTERTAINMENT NEWS - In a University of the Third Age (U3A) lecture at 11:30 on Wednesday 11 November, Doug Emanuel will take the audience from the canyons of Utah to the tulips of Amsterdam.
No mean feat. This trip came about when he and his wife, Fern, went to Chicago for their granddaughter’s wedding, and it made sense to fit in a spot of travelling as well. As winter was approaching, they went further south to Utah, the home of the Zion and Bryce national parks.
Doug’s hobbies are golf, photography, travelling and some low-level birding and cycling.
At the Friday Talk on 20 November, Wilhelm van der Vyver will talk about ‘Sorolla - of water, of light, of love’.
This is a cultural presentation on art. Joaquin Sorolla was a Spanish painter who lived from 1863 to 1923, and is associated with the Impressionist Era.
The talk will introduce the audience to impressionism and then the painter himself. There will be refreshments beforehand, and the lecture starts at 10:30.
This will be the last talk of the year. All lectures are at Emmaüs in Memorium Street, and visitors are always welcome.
The U3A is a worldwide organisation for people who have reached the age beyond formal education (Age 1) and full-time work (Age 2) and who wish to pursue their interests and share their knowledge with others. The movement encourages groups of people in their ‘third age’ to come together and continue their enjoyment of learning.
