GEORGE BUSINESS NEWS - The CrossFit Wings Teen Championship competition that took place on Friday and Saturday, 13 and 14 April, at the Tekkie Town Head Office in George saw some great sportsmanship between the competitors.
Owner and head coach at CrossFit Wings, Jan Fourie, believes that the event was a great success as it saw competitors coming from all corners of the country. He said the reason for the event was to give top-performing CrossFit teenagers from across the country the opportunity to compete against their peers, thereby promoting the sport of CrossFit and investing in upcoming athletes.

CrossFit is a fitness regimen developed by Greg Glassman over several decades. Glassman was the first person to define fitness in a meaningful, measurable way: increased work capacity across broad time and modal domains. All CrossFit workouts are based on functional movements, and these movements reflect the best aspects of gymnastics, weightlifting, running, rowing and more.
Athletes were invited according to their standings on the International CrossFit Open 2018 Leaderboard and 25 competitors came from as far as Upington, Polokwane, Gauteng and Grahamstown. The categories for the event were: boys and girls 14 - 15 years, and boys and girls 16 - 17 years.
The competition kicked off on Friday afternoon with three gruelling workouts testing the athletes' skill, strength and endurance. Friday evening was rounded off with a delicious dinner at Sole Café.
On Saturday morning, the athletes arrived bright and early for the next three workouts, which included high-skill movements such as rope climbing, muscle ups and weight lifting.

It was impressive to see each athlete's immense determination, perseverance and a wonderful CrossFit camaraderie. It was clear why these athletes deserved to be invited to the CrossFit Teen Champs competition.
The competition was highly enjoyable to both athletes and spectators. CrossFit Wings boasts a beautiful fully equipped facility ideal to host competitions, and the athletes were well supported by enthusiastic spectators.
"We are grateful to our sponsors, Reebok and Rebel Elite Fitness, that enabled us to give wonderful prizes to the winners, and gifts to each participant," said Fourie.
"A big THANK YOU to our members. The event would not have been possible without them sacrificing their own time to play a role as judges, score keepers and members of the equipment team."
The CrossFit Wings Teen Champs Competition will become an annual event to be held at the beginning of April, after the international CrossFit Open.
