GEORGE NEWS - A pedestrian was hit by a Go George bus on the corner of Courtenay and Ironside streets, George, at about 10:00 on Monday 31 August.
Go George confirmed that an incident involving a pedestrian was registered that day.
According to municipal spokesperson Ntobeko Mangqwengqwe, it appears that the pedestrian suddenly ran from the kerb into the road and into oncoming traffic, when he was hit. “As is protocol in such cases, ambulance services and the police were immediately dispatched to provide the necessary medical and other assistance,” he said.
Mangqwengqwe confirmed that the pedestrian was transported to George Hospital for a professional medical assessment. “No passengers or anyone else were injured,” he said.
A police case was opened following the incident, and Go George is also concluding its internal investigation.
Mangqwengqwe said the pedestrian could not be contacted telephonically after the incident. A Go George staff member subsequently visited the George Hospital casualty section to enquire after his well-being. The pedestrian was known only by his first name.
“A hospital staff member confirmed that the pedestrian had already left the facility of his own accord,” Mangqwengqwe said.
