SOUTHERN CAPE NEWS - Despite the icy and rainy weather, the first day of the George Agricultural Show is attracting more people than expected and the show terrain is abuzz with activity.
The show opened this morning, Thursday 24 August and concludes on Saturday night.
Show President Gert Pretorius says they are hoping for another bumper event that will attract more than the 17 000 visitors who attended last year's show.
Judging in the livestock section started early this morning and the Western Cape Simmentaler Championship is underway.
This year's entertainment programme offers a variety for the whole family. Apart from the many stalls where visitors can browse, there is some sporting action, competitions to enter, the cheese, wine and venison tent, SA Breweries beer tent, flower arrangement and woodwork exhibits, the youth show, and much more.
Jackie Theron has created the 'Best on Show' flower arrangement which is a creative piece using car tyres to show how one can 'upcycle' used items.
Make sure to see one of the performances of the well-known riel dance group, Nuwe Graskoue Trappers. Other artists on the programme include Snotkop, Jay, Michael Lindt, the young concertina player Kosie Beukes, and Hennie du Bruyn en die Kitaarkêrels.
Entry is R50 for adults and R20 for children.
Don your gum boots and join the fun.
The Nuwe Graskoue Trappers were spotted on the show grounds. They are giving a number of performances at the show.
